Friday, 10 March 2023 – AgriSETA delivered a provincial career summit in Middledrift, Eastern Cape in collaboration with Fort Cox Agriculture and Forestry Training Institute and its strategic partners, the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development, and Agriculture Research Council.

Agriculture is relevant,’ exclaimed AgriSETA Chief Executive Officer Dr Innocent Sirvoha following yet another successful career exhibition hosted by the organisation. This time around, learners in the Northern Cape were exposed to study and career opportunities offered by the sector.
“AgriSETA wants to connect agricultural colleges with commercial farmers and is also ready to place students for practical experience with farmers. The organization can pay the students a grant for about 18 months. Please teach them practical skills” said AgriSETA CEO.

Isobel van der Stoep (45) had to break down many stereotypes in Mzansi’s agricultural sector as a female agricultural engineer. Never wanting an office job, she pursued agricultural engineering and is now an irrigation engineer specialist.
Growing up in a small town in the embattled Sudan, Sirdar received a scholarship at the University of Pretoria while studying veterinary science at a university in his home country. The rest is history. Almost two decades of studying and doing research between Sudan and South Africa later, he has recently completed his PhD degree in veterinary epidemiology.
Dr Zelda Bijzet (54) yearned to be a pharmaceutical researcher when she graduated from high school. But, at the time, women were not able to work as researchers. Instead she pursued agriculture, creating a path to her dream career.
