Limpopo, South Africa – October 2025: The sound of spinning records, soulful beats, and shared laughter echoed through the mountains of Mokopane this past weekend, 3 – 5 October, as Vinyl Camp 2025 brought together more than 1,500 music lovers, DJs, and collectors for a one-of-a-kind cultural experience at Acacia Campsite, Doorndraai Dam Nature Reserve.
Now in its 11th edition since its inception in 2013, Vinyl Camp has cemented its reputation as South Africa’s exclusive only vinyl-only music and lifestyle retreat, offering a rare mix of music heritage, community, and outdoor adventure. Attendance this year reflected substantial growth from 1,000 participants in 2024, highlighting the festival’s rising influence in South Africa’s music and tourism scene.
Founded by Victor “Duplay” Mashitoa under the Duplay Music banner, the event continues to celebrate the timeless appeal of vinyl culture – creating a space where music, nature, and people connect beyond the digital noise.
“Each year, Vinyl Camp grows not only in numbers but in spirit. It’s become more than an event – it’s a movement where people rediscover music’s authenticity and the power of community,” says Mashitoa.
Over the three-day weekend, campers from across South Africa and neighbouring countries including Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini came together to experience live DJ sets, vinyl showcases, art, and the simple joy of connection under the Limpopo skies.
Beyond the turntables, Vinyl Camp 2025 also focused on local economic empowerment, partnering with small vendors, food stalls, and service providers from the Mokopane area. The event also reinforced its commitment to safety and sustainability, with an emphasis on responsible camping and waste management.
“We’re proud of how Vinyl Camp contributes to Limpopo’s tourism and creative economy,” added Duplay, founder of Duplay Music. “It’s proof that cultural experiences can drive both social and economic value while keeping the authenticity of grassroots music culture alive.”
This year’s success marks another milestone for the growing brand, with plans already underway to expand Vinyl Camp into a nationwide roadshow – bringing its unique blend of vinyl music and community connection to other provinces and, eventually, neighbouring countries.
As the final record spun and the fires dimmed, one thing became clear – Vinyl Camp is more than a festival. It’s a cultural heartbeat that continues to remind South Africans of the warmth, texture, and truth that only vinyl can bring.
A Note of Thanks
Vinyl Camp 2025 extends its heartfelt gratitude to its valued partners and sponsors: MTN, Solve4H Branding, Namaqua Wines, and South African Breweries (SAB) – for their unwavering support and belief in the power of music to connect communities. Their contributions helped make this year’s event a resounding success and a celebration of creativity, culture, and collaboration.
