Miss International SA Dr Ferini Dayal

Ferini Dayal has always wanted to pursue a career in medicine. Having completed high school at age seventeen with eight years of ballet and having been part of multiple teams in sporting fields, she remained top ten academically throughout.

Ferini applied for medicine and went on to complete a Biomedical Sciences degree, majoring in Physiology, and graduated at age 20. She applied for the Graduate Medical Entry Program in her final year of BHSc and was shortlisted to top ten.

In 2015, Ferini began her medical degree and completed it in 2018. During this time she was president of affairs for her class. She raised over R500 000 thousand in support of her medics ball, graduation breakfast, scrubs and gifts for the qualifying doctors. Sponsors included Investec, First National Bank, Emperors Palace and Bidvest.

In 2018, at the age of 24 with two degrees, Ferini qualified for an internship at the largest academic teaching hospital in the Southern hemisphere. She rotated through multiple disciplinarians and worked with renowned surgeons and physicians in one of the most sought-after trauma departments in the world. She received multiple awards during her service and additionally did a large array of courses in aesthetics, as she was set to specialize as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

Ferini has trained with the best in their fields, Dr Luiz from Brazil, Julie Horne from Julie Horne Academy, Johan Botha CEO of Aptos and multiple other surgeons. She trained in vascular surgery, burns, breast and trauma.

Giving back has always been a focus for Ferini, and philanthropy is a part of her calling. Her intent is to fill the gap in medicine and society. During the peak of Covid, she implemented an initiative that focused on donating gifts to children in paediatric wards, this became known as the ‘Dayal Christmas Drive’. Over two hundred and fifty thousand rand worth of toys were donated to spoil each child. All the charity done was solely out of Ferini’s initiative.

Ferini completed her internship in 2020 and continued her public service at Thelle Mogoerane Hospital. During this time, she made it into Miss South Africa as a top 30 finalist. In 2021 she completed her first surgical exams, ATLS, ACLS and more.

Ferini entered Miss International South Africa and was crowned as the winner, representing South Africa in Japan, in one of the top three pageants of the world. South Africa has yet to bring home a crown and she is excited to be the candidate to do so.

Ferini’s philanthropy in South Africa is a project close to her heart and is aimed at educating women, children and the country as a whole on various health issues.

In the last year, Ferini spent her time on two major philanthropy projects: Nelson Mandela Day and World Prematurity Day. She is currently working as a surgeon in Bertha Gxowa Hospital and her intent is to get into plastic and reconstructive surgery. She is excited for this journey and where her career is headed
