Adidas has celebrated the launch of its new Predator Edge football boot in South Africa by shining a light on the country’s brightest female footballing talents, with three emerging female footballers joining a roster of established athletes in the Adidas stable.

The trio - Jessica Wade, Lelona Dewati and Kanenelo Taiwe – join established local stars such as Ronwen Williams, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Vincent Pule and the young Boitumelo Radiopane, with a focus on the brand’s mission to create lasting change for women in sport, along with enhanced support for established and emerging athletes and grassroots programmes.

The players were on hand to demonstrate their skills at the official launch of the Predator boot in Johannesburg last week. The launch saw media, players and members of the footballing fraternity trying out the boot in various exercises.

The new boot features state of the art technology, including the use of what adidas calls ‘zone skin’ – a breakthrough fabric technology on the boot upper that is specifically designed to support swerve, spin and grip. It also boasts strategically positioned rubberised ribs, engineered into four control zones across the boots’ insteps and toe boxes to optimise ball manipulation.

The original Predator was introduced in 1994 and was worn on the pitch by stars such as David Beckham and Steven Gerrard. The new Predator Edge will be promoted by a new generation of international stars, including Paul Pogba, David Alaba and star English forward Toni Duggan. Locally the boot will be worn by the likes of Thulani Hlatshwayo, Daniel Cardoso and Ronwen Williams.

“Since 1994, we’ve continued to push the boundaries of innovation through our Predator designs, ensuring the boot remains at the forefront of football technology,” said Sports Marketing Manager at adidas’ Bob Maphosa. “But Predator is more than just a boot. It is synonymous with iconic footballing moments, worn by greats of the game, and will continue to carry this legacy with the new generation of players who are proving that impossible is nothing, both on and off the pitch.”

The Predator Edge will be available to buy instore and online at adidas.com, and select retailers, from 17 February 2022. To find out more, please visit: adidas.com/football. Follow the conversation on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter using #Predator #PredatorEdge and @adidasfootball.
