WOMEN SHOW OFF ON THE GREENS AT INSPIRATIONAL MRS SOUTH AFRICA GOLF DAY

30 May, 2023: In one of the most stylish golfing events of the year, Mrs South Africa held its 8th annual golf day on Friday, 26 May, combining a passion for the sport with its commitment to women’s empowerment. Held at the Glendower Golf Club in Edenvale, the event leveraged the incredible power of golf for networking opportunities and personal development, while offering all participants a fun-filled and uplifting day in the sun.

Ranked sixth in South Africa, the picturesque Glendower golf course set a stunning scene for some friendly fourball competition, which was followed by skills workshops, motivational talks, a prizegiving, and a sumptuous buffet dinner.

The day brought together a diverse cohort of remarkable women from all walks of life, including the current class of semi-finalists, as well as reigning Queen Palesa Matjekane and 2nd Princess Lechar Knezovich. They were joined by various friends and family members, as well as sponsors and industry professionals, giving all attendants the opportunity to show off their skills on the golf course, while fostering relationships within their professional networks.

“Our annual golf day is enormously popular with our semi-finalists, and stands as a true testament to the multi-faceted, rich nature of the Mrs South Africa programme and the value we offer our participants,” notes Mrs South Africa CEO Joani Johnson.

“Our event not only celebrates our women and the spirit of camaraderie and friendship that they can find within our programme, but it also offers our semi-finalists the opportunity to meet with official sponsors and build relationships that could unlock new potential opportunities. We also provide semi-finalists with practical skills training, and opportunities to hear and learn from other inspirational women and leaders, ensuring that they are fully equipped with all the tools they need to succeed on their journeys.”

The golf day was a highly memorable experience made possible through the assistance of several remarkable Mrs SA Official sponsors who generously provided support, gifts, and prizes. These included Dr K Dermal Health Care, Chery Krugersdorp, BTL, Whirlpool, Urbantrend, PR Worx, Action Coach, Hirsch’s Homestores, Brentoni Eyewear, Slimz, Finesse with VoelgoedMedia, MSC Cruises, Truewood Furniture, Maskscara, and Wild Africa Cream.

Headline sponsor Dallmayr Coffee further offered sumptuous welcoming coffees at the registration and the prizegiving, while supplying prizes for the teams and providing a water table at the sixth hole.

One of the highlights of the day was a pop-up stand by the Southern Africa Animal Cancer Association (SAACA), which was able to raise further funds for its cause with support for its raffle tickets. The organisation enjoys a close relationship with Mrs South Africa, having received an impressive R100,000 through the programme’s various philanthropic efforts over the past two years. These funds have supported the organisation's mission to combat animal cancer, positively impacting the lives of countless animals and their owners. Also present was another official charity, FAMPRO, raising awareness for their fight for victims of gender-based violence, physical abuse, child abuse and child neglect.

In other highlights, semi-finalists were able to hear from esteemed industry professionals, while its comprehensive workshops equipped participants with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to excel in the upcoming judging process.

Through a panel-style discussion facilitated by Mrs South Africa’s former and current titleholders, as well as mentors, semi-finalists received practical tips on topics ranging from styling and interview preparation to on-stage preparation. This comes as they head towards the first-ever semi-finalist showcase event on Friday 07 July, where the 2023 Finalists will be announced.

Finally, the semi-finalists were inspired by talks from life coach Debbie Wheal of Routes Coaching on managing disappointment, as well as on making the most of their experience by former Mrs South Africa Queen Jo Judnick-Wilson.

“As an organisation, the Mrs South Africa Golf Day exemplifies our focus on collaboration, community, and inspiration. The day was an incredible success all around, empowering and uniting our participants through shared experiences and fun activities, while giving them the practical skills needed to show up as formidable leaders and change-makers,” concludes Johnson.
