Johannesburg - After a successful 2018 in which VOLVO Cars SA celebrated major wins both locally and internationally, the luxury car brand is kicking off the new year on a high note. VOLVO Cars scooped the biggest award in the Executive SUV category at the cars.co.za Consumer Awards held on Thursday evening, 24 January, at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

"The recognition that Volvo Cars receives each year is proof that as a leading luxury brand, we are consistently taking a step in the right direction with our cars. We are in an exciting space as a car manufacturer," says Volvo Car SA Managing Director, Greg Maruszweski.

Not new to receiving major nods, the brand's Volvo XC60 is the current holder of the World Car of The Year and has now won in the Executive SUV category contending against some of South Africa's top luxury vehicles in the industry namely, BMW and Audi.

In the finals for these prestigious awards were the Volvo XC40, which was named the Women's Car of The Year in 2018 as well as a finalist in the 2019 AutoTrader South African Car of The Year. It was also a top contender in the Premium Compact Category. The Volvo S90 was also a finalist in the Executive Sedan category.

"Key for us globally, is to ensure that we produce the best of the best for our consumers. Such wins are a pat in our back, encouraging us to remain on our lane and improve every single year," adds Maruszweski.

Sales have rapidly increased, proving that Volvo has become a South African favourite automotive brand. In the past year, the highest volume month was November seeing record sales of 116 units. At the end of the year 741 XC60's were sold exceeding the 586 in 2017.

Now in its 4th year running, the cars.co.za Consumer Awards powered Wesbank is one of  South Africa's definitive automotive awards. Each year, cars.co.za collaborates with its panel of judges and consumers for the decision-making process of the finalists in various categories.
